Blandford Manor is a traditional Old English estate and Manor House established along the banks of the Olienhoutpoort river in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.
The large 10 acre gardens are internationally registered at Kew in the United Kingdom (Botanical Gardens Conservation International) as Botanical gardens. As such, the Blandford Manor gardens are one of only 14 registered botanical gardens in South Africa and only slightly more than 700 registered gardens in 118 countries around the world.
These gardens form an integral part of an international network of gardens adhering to the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) at a national and local level focused on reversing the threat of extinction facing one third of all plants.
The emphasis at Blandford Manor is placed on displaying plant life to encourage others to better understand the need for sustainability of plant life and to enjoy the natural beauty that such plantlife provides.
While the gardens are entirely self-financed by the owners, support in any form is welcome. Anyone wishing to donate plants is encouraged to do so, the plants will be used in the gardens and may be viewed as they grow and develop as part of the extended gardening programme.
Anyone wishing to donate but not knowing what species are being sought can contact our garden management department.
